OOXML, ISO 26300 (ODF), and you! (10-21-07)
www.noooxml.org wouldn't allow constructive comments on their petition form (300 character maximum), so maybe google will pick this up. I think everyone needs to think things through more clearly rather than become another thoughtless e-signature at noooxml.org. For all I know, it's another worthless e-petition that nobody cares about, but I'd rather play it safe in this case.

[QUOTE = Jon8RFC]
Acknowledge me, carefully. My signature is not the voiced expulsion of OOXML; it is the voiced recognition to the imminently-haphazard finalization of crucial building-blocks, that the sheepish following of a poorly led campaign supports. I do not yet condone current OOXML or ODF proposals as the new, updated , or reaffirmed "golden-standard(s)" for the ISO hearing at hand, however I do condemn the haste at which the majority--both camps, collectively--wants to take action with minimal litigation. I see that many of my 250 recent petitioned-peers are offering reckless support or an off-topic outright Microsoft-boycott given the specific topic of OOXML, accompanied by irrelevant comments containing unnecessary or childish puns, unhelpful sheepish recitation, and--the worst--blatant avoidance to form respectable English (when it's their native language) statements among a topic directly related to approving a new STANDARD! Except for the rare occurrence (I won't quote their comment), nearly every one of the ever-updating 250 displayed comments I'm reading lacks (when offered the same soapbox that I'm utilizing) the desire--or even the remote care, for that matter--to entertain alternatives for progression, such as: a thoughtfully updated ODF submission to embrace beneficial OOXML characteristics without introducing a dual-standard; a revised OOXML submission, complementary to the current ODF standard; a recess to evaluate the apparent priority this hearing holds in relation to other, outdated standards.

A second or third thought wouldn't hurt, because safer to listen to and research other options than read red print "NO to the..." and remember you were convinced to hate said company, yet proceed to sign the petition, probably using a Windows-based operating system.

I'll limit myself to one criticism of the authors' strong-worded oppositions. Reason seven, above, has poor word usage which probably (and under false reasoning) sealed the deal for many tentative readers--the word "bug" is used inappropriately, which is described to forbid things. I believe that "limitation" is the correct descriptive, because a traditional CD-R (with burning software and necessary hardware) not being able to burn 2GB worth of data onto the disc isn't a "bug" or design-flaw. The word "bug" would be the descriptor of a sheepish programmer's instruction had the cd-burner use 4watts of output from the laser, because someone told him "more power means faster burning".

So, my (mm-dd-yy) structure doesn't comply, so feel free to label me as hypocritical; you only see this puny, no-namer website--no problem. For things that matter, such as logs, I use nothing other than ISO 8601 for structuring. Did I change the structure to adhere to my post above? No. I'm offering thoughts on an ISO standard which will, globally, affect people. Websites of corporations and educational institutions, that I've had a hand in, meet W3C standards; my future endeavours in the works are W3C-compliant. This dinky website is not, and I have no intention of making it so because this is how I like it.

Does the Verizon LG VX9900 enV have an external antenna port? (01-28-07)
It sure does.  I just bought one and was disappointed that I didn't notice a port like my previous VX8100, VX6000 and QCP-2035a had on the back, with an obvious plug covering it.  On the VX9900, the port is to the left of the camera, below the plate that has "2.0 MEGA PIXELS" printed on it.  The port looks really nice; it's a solid gold connector, without the typical black plastic in the middle.  There looks to be another port on the phone, which is recessed further and harder to see.  I'm guessing this other port is for a different external antenna system, like a 3watt amplifier, possibly.

Be cautious when taking off the cover.  If you use a blunt object, you'll scratch the back a bit.  I used a razor blade and slipped it down into the phone, carefully, and then pried it up.  I still scratched the under part a bit, but it was better than the round plugs, which I either tore up trying to get out, or scratched the plastic around it badly.  I don't understand why these are made so difficult to get off since it's a functional part of the phone underneath.

The amount of bars in my signal went up for both 1X and EV-DO.  I really like the individual display for each band--this truly is a phone made for geeks, and I keep finding new things I like about it.  I wish all of the things I like about it were advertised, because I would've snagged one much earlier.  This is the next best thing to a PDA phone, which I don't want because I want my phone GUI and operation to still feel like a phone, and I want my laptop and desktop computers to have the Windows GUI and feel.

On a side note, it took me a minute to figure out where to do it, but this phone--being V-Cast--supports the 0000000 settings menu as other V-Cast phones do.  You can't access it from the front screen, and can't on the main screen unless it's displaying large icons.  Open up the main screen and hit the menu button once, then just hit zero seven times and you're all set!  The first thing I always change is the SMS data rate, which speeds up picture and video sending SIGNIFICANTLY!  This makes a huge difference, especially now that the phone can take 2mp pictures.

Forgot your AIM password? (09-26-06)
Have you forgotten your AIM password?  Do you no longer have the email address used with your AIM screen name?  Did someone steal your AIM screen name account and change the email address and password?
There is hope!

AOL has just recently changed the process for resetting an AIM screen name's password.  You can do one of two things: enter in your email address associated with your screen name; or enter in your birth date, gender and zip code you entered when you created the account.
Even if your account has been stolen and the email address has been changed, go ahead and use option #2 because, as far as I know, you cannot change the other information--it's locked in from registration.  This mean that you just might be able to recover an AIM screen name that was stolen even a few years ago!

https://account.login.aol.com/opr/_cqr/opr/opr.psp?loginId=

The above is a secure AOL site.  To prevent account stealing, you should always check what the link actually is that you're clicking on.  I hope that you all would trust me, given my status in the AIM community over the years, but the best way to ensure your safety is to try logging onto AIM, then click on the "forgot password?" button.
The 's' after http means that the site is using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) and is the best online encryption currently available.  As a matter of fact, I know the person that works for Microsoft who owns and designed SSL.

I've posted this on two major AIM community websites as well: http://www.mymiddleman.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=169 AND http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/aim-support/37941-new-forgot-password-process-aim-accounts.html

I hope some of you are able to recover your lost or stolen AIM screen name accounts.  Shoot me an email (click on the contact link at the top) and let me know if you were able to regain control of an account that you never thought you'd get back...I'd love to hear it!

The OC Season 3 (09-11-05)
If you're like me, and for some odd reason thought that the third season of the OC was premiering next week, you can download the episode to catch up for next week.  It's a great episode!

Download the torrent for The O.C. season 3 episode 1.

If you're new to torrents, there are plenty of programs out there for using .torrent files.  Personally, I use Shareaza to manage my torrents, but it is also a great file-sharing program.  If all you want is to simply download the torrent without any excess baggage, my favorite is Bit Torrent.

Have an AIM virus?
Jay Loden's AIM Fix is your solution...he's great person to help out everyone by creating his program, which is the ONLY one of its kind. :)
He updates the program very frequently, and my favorite place for keeping up with the updates is at BetaNews.
